The Invisible Science of Motion: A Hands-On Tribology Experience

IMG_0100_edited.jpg

Have you ever wondered why things slow down, how machines keep moving smoothly, or why oil is so important in engines?

Join us for an exciting, hands-on STEM experience where students explore the hidden science of friction, wear, and lubrication—also known as tribology, the science that keeps the world moving.

Participants will:

Test how different surfaces affect motion using a friction ramp experiment
Explore how materials wear down and form protective layers using a mini tribology testing setup
Discover how ball bearings and roller bearings help machines move efficiently

  • Learn how lubricants (like oils and greases) reduce friction and improve performance

Through fun experiments and real-world examples—from bicycles and cars to industrial machines—students will see how engineers design systems to reduce energy loss, improve efficiency, and extend machine life.

This interactive exhibit connects physics, engineering, and even future technologies like AI and predictive maintenance, showing how simple concepts power the modern world.

Perfect for curious minds of all ages!
